MB BS (Calcutta)
Rupak joined the practice as a full-time partner on 1st October 2005, having been a registrar with the practice until September 2005. Rupak has completed his MRCP and has a clinical interest in Cardiovascular diseases, having trained as a GP with Special Interests in Cardiology.
Rupak the lead GP in the Practice for Quality Improvement and the Quality and Outcomes framework. Rupak is our Caldicott Guardian.
Rupak became senior partner on 1st January 2017.
MB ChB (Sheffield 1985) MRCGP
Maggie joined the practice on 1st November 2005, having been a principal in Birmingham for several years. Maggie is a GP trainer. Maggie is responsible for co-ordinating the educational programmes within the Practice.
Maggie is the lead GP in the Practice for learning disabilities, palliative care, cancer and osteoporosis. She has a special interest in Dermatology.
MB BS (Newcastle) MRCGP
Alex joined the practice on 1st April 2007. Previously, he has been a partner in a Practice in the North East. Alex is a GP Appraiser.
Alex has an interest in Drug and Alcohol misuse services.
Alex is the lead GP in the Practice for CQC compliance, Respiratory disease and mental health.
Dr.MED (Tübingen Germany) MRCGP DRCOG DFFP
Anke also joined the practice on 1st April 2007, having been a salaried GP elsewhere in Carlisle. Anke was a registrar at the Practice during her training and has a special interest in women’s health.
Anke is the lead GP in the Practice for women's and sexual health as well has having a safeguarding role in the Practice. She is our Prevent Lead and also takes responsibility for our vulnerable patients.
MBChB, MRCS (Edinburgh), MRCGP
Elena joined us in April 2012, having trained with us as a GP Registrar. Elena became a partner on 1st April 2013. Elena has a background in general surgery and performs minor operations at the Practice.
Elena is a GP Trainer, and is our lead GP in the Practice for Clinical Governance, Diabetes and Epilepsy.
Mb ChB 2009 (Dundee)
Barry was originally and GP Registrar with the Practice and went on to join the practice as a Salaried GP in October 2014. He then became a Partner April 2017.
Barry has a lead role in Prescribing, Safeguarding, and Clinical Guidelines.
MBBS, DRCOG, DFSRH
Helen joined us in July 2013, having previously been a GP Registrar with the Practice. Helen had worked in the North East for a while after qualifying. Helen has an interest in womens health and respiratory medicine
MBChB 2001 (Aberdeen), MRCGP, DRCOG, DPD
Dr Burnett joined the Practice in February 2019, having previously worked here as a locum. Dr Burnett has worked in Cumbrian practices previously, as well as "down South" during recent years and we are pleased she has joined us here at Spencer Street Surgery.

Gary joined the Practice in September 2019, having completed his training. Gary spent time with us as a GP Registrar during his training, as well as completing rotations in Palliative Care, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Mental Health, Ophthalmology, Ear, Nose and Throat, General Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics, A&E, Cardiology, General Medicine and General Surgery. Gary works Monday to Friday morning sessions at Spencer Street Surgery.
Judith joined Spencer Street Surgery in 2001 and is our Nursing Team Manager. She works with the Partners and the Nursing team to help us to offer the best service possible for our patients.
As well as providing general nursing care, Judith has undertaken further specialist training in providing care for patients with diabetes and heart failure.
Judith is a qualified nurse prescriber.
Sue joined the practice as a Practice nurse in November 2003.
As well as general practice nursing care, Sue has a special interest in respiratory disease, and has trained further in the specialist fields of asthma and COPD. Sue is a qualified Nurse Prescriber.
Diane joined us as a Practice Nurse in October 2008.
Diane has undertaken further specialist training in the fields of asthma and COPD. Diane also has an interest in contraceptive services and sexual health. Diane is a qualified Nurse Prescriber.
Victoria joined Spencer Street Surgery as a Practice Nurse in May 2018, having previously worked in the Intensive Care Unit at Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
Pamela joined Spencer Street Surgery in June 2018, having previously worked at Penrith Community Hospital.
Shona is our healthcare assistant. She started at the Practice in 2007. She works closely with the Practice Nursing team providing pre-clinic checks for chronic disease monitoring, as well as administering vaccinations including B12, flu, shingles and pneumonia, blood tests and general practice nursing support.
Lisa is a healthcare assistant who works closely with the Practice Nurses and provides support to the nurses and GP's. Lisa's duties include NHS health checks, chronic disease pre-clinic tests, lifestyle and general health advice and general healthcare assistant duties. She is trained in administering vaccinations including B12, shingles, flu and pneumonia.
Julie joined the practice in 1989 and holds qualifications in Primary Healthcare Management via Newcastle Business School and AMSPAR, Level 5 Institute of Learning and Management (ILM5) and also qualified in Accountancy Technician (AAT). Julie became Managing Partner in 2011.
Julie is responsible for the day to day running and overall management of the Practice in conjunction with her Partners and team.
Kellie is our Assistant Practice Manager. Kellie deputises for the Managing Partner in her absence and leads the HR and IT roles within the Practice.
We have a support team of administrators and receptionists who work hard to help make the Practice run smoothly and efficiently.
Debbie is our secretary. If you have any queries about your referral to hospital, hospital appointments, or general administration queries, please contact Debbie who will be happy to help.
Louise is our Lead for the Administration Team. She works closely with her team and the Assistant Practice Manager to ensure all admin functions operate effectively.
Jemma is our Reception Manager. She works closely with the Lead Administrator and Assistant Practice Manager, as well as her reception team to ensure the reception area functions efficiently and effectively.
The District Nurses can be contacted on 01228 608026. The District Nurses provide services for housbound patients of the practice.
